Exploring Kathmandu
By George McGowan
19 January 2014

On Day 2 we ventured out on a sight seeing tour to some local attractions around Kathmandu.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable & very funny at the same time. He must have thought he was a part time comedian. First stop was Pashupatinath . Here we walked around many temples & observed the public display of Hindu cremations.

I must admit I didn’t feel very comfortable walking on one side of the river with other tourist taking pictures, while families were grieving & cremating a deceased family member on the other side of the river. Next we travelled to Boudhanath Stupa. This is one of the holiest sites in Kathmandu for Buddhists.

It’s one of the largest in the world. It was great just to walk around the Stupa (clockwise) and visit the various stores & roof terrace restaurants that surround the stupa.
