Gallavanting At Camden Markets
By Suzanne Bowles

It is so much fun walking the streets of London.  London is a "walking" city as it is best seen by foot.  And I also love riding the tube.  Not just because is it so convenient but because you see such a variety of people and personalities in the carriages on the way to your destination.  Obtain an Oyster card on your first day.  Have it topped up with some cash and you can ride the public transport by just swiping your card.  It is cheaper than buying tickets.  But the best thing is that you don't need to line up to purchase tickets!

I took the tube to Camden town tube station.  Shopping in Camden is a lot of fun.  It's a major tourist attraction and is the largest street markets in the UK with over 500,000 visitors each week.  Can you believe it?

I'm always drawn to the 'market' experience and this one did not disappoint.  The stalls and shops are so diverse at the Camden Lock market and the Camden Stables market.  I even found a man who would make me a leather bag to my own specifications!  There are plenty of cafes, restaurants, bars and bustling shops selling individual and extensive array of high quality goods including antiques, one off accessories and collectables, as well as amazing fashion. I found second hand leather jackets and vests for ten pounds, all different styles and colours.  Hand made and crafted notebooks all different colours and sizes with different motives, including animals and crystals. I bought some of these to take home for gifts. There is amazing jewellery, and crystals, handmade at fantastic prices, and amazing designs including wooden rings.  How cool?  Then there are the Vintage clothing stores which are fun and have amazing shoes, clothes, handbags and fur coats to mention a few.  These vintage clothing stores rivalled the ones I saw in NY.

The markets seem to go on and on and on and they are interestingly located beside the Camden Lock.  So you can sit, at the waters edge, and enjoy a sandwich.  Get lost on roof tops and alleyways as you meander your way around.  And if you're looking for something more substantial to eat why not try a giraffe hamburger or kangaroo burgers?  My sister did try the giraffe hamburger and she was impressed!
